As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and good luck. The goal is to move your chips carefully around the game board to your inside board while at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips moving in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at specific times. Here are the last two Backgammon tactics to round out your game.
The Priming Game Plan
If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift his chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely stop any activity of the opponent by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a bad position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anywhere between point two and point 11 in your board. After you’ve successfully constructed the prime to prevent the movement of your opponent, the opponent does not even get to toss the dice, that means you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.
The Back Game Strategy
The objectives of the Back Game tactic and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions with hope to improve your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game technique utilizes different techniques to achieve that. The Back Game plan is frequently used when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This tactic is more difficult than others to use in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are moved is partly the result of the dice roll.
