In astonishingly general terms, there are 3 general game plans used. You must be able to hop between tactics instantly as the action of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This is composed of assembling a 6-thick wall of pieces, or at least as thick as you might achieve, to barricade in the opponent’s checkers that are on your 1-point. This is deemed to be the most suitable procedure at the start of the match. You can assemble the wall anywhere within your 11-point and your 2-point and then shuffle it into your home board as the game advances.
The Blitz
This is comprised of closing your home board as quick as possible while keeping your challenger on the bar. i.e., if your challenger tosses an early 2 and moves one checker from your one-point to your 3-point and you then roll a 5-5, you are able to play 6/1 6/1 eight/three eight/three. Your opponent is now in serious difficulty because they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inside board!
The Backgame
This course of action is where you have two or higher checkers in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor is a position consisting of at least 2 of your checkers.) It should be played when you are decidedly behind as it much improves your circumstances. The strongest locations for anchor spots are towards your competitor’s lower points and either on adjoining points or with a single point in between. Timing is essential for a powerful backgame: besides, there’s no point having 2 nice anchors and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then forced to break up this right away, while your opponent is moving their pieces home, considering that you don’t have any other extra pieces to move! In this situation, it’s better to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up until your challenger gives you an opportunity to hit, so it may be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your competitor to get them in this situation!
