As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and luck. The aim is to move your chips carefully around the board to your home board while at the same time your opponent moves their checkers toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With opposing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the last 2 Backgammon plans to round out your game.
The Priming Game Plan
If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to shift her chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if he at all tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your game board. After you have successfully assembled the prime to block the movement of the competitor, the opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your checkers and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions with hope to improve your chances of winning, but the Back Game strategy uses different tactics to do that. The Back Game technique is generally employed when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you need to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This strategy is more complex than others to play in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the checkers are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
