The aim of a Backgammon match is to shift your checkers around the game board and pull those pieces off the game board quicker than your opposing player who works harder to do the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Winning a game of Backgammon requires both strategy and luck. How far you can move your pieces is up to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and how you shift your pieces are determined by your overall playing plans. Players use a number of strategies in the different stages of a match depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The goal of the Running Game plan is to entice all your checkers into your inside board and get them off as quickly as you could. This strategy concentrates on the pace of advancing your checkers with absolutely no time spent to hit or barricade your opponent’s checkers. The ideal time to employ this technique is when you think you might be able to move your own checkers quicker than your opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer pieces on the board; 2) all your chips have past your competitor’s checkers; or 3) the opposing player doesn’t employ the hitting or blocking strategy.

The Blocking Game Plan

The main goal of the blocking tactic, by the title, is to stop the opponent’s pieces, temporarily, while not fretting about shifting your pieces rapidly. After you’ve established the blockade for the competitor’s movement with a few chips, you can move your other pieces rapidly off the board. The player should also have a clear strategy when to extract and shift the chips that you used for the blockade. The game becomes intriguing when the competitor uses the same blocking strategy.
