As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and pure luck. The goal is to move your checkers safely around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player pieces heading in opposing directions there is going to be conflict and the need for specific techniques at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon strategies to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to shift their pieces, the Priming Game tactic is to completely barricade any activity of the opponent by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he/she at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully built the prime to stop the activity of your opponent, your competitor doesn’t even get to roll the dice, and you shift your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to harm your opponent’s positions with hope to boost your odds of succeeding, however the Back Game tactic uses seperate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is commonly employed when you are far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice toss.
