The objective of a Backgammon match is to move your chips around the game board and get those pieces from the board faster than your opponent who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposite direction. Succeeding in a game of Backgammon requires both tactics and fortune. How far you will be able to shift your checkers is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and the way you shift your pieces are decided on by your overall playing tactics. Enthusiasts use differing tactics in the different parts of a match dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Technique

The aim of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your checkers into your inside board and bear them off as quickly as you could. This technique focuses on the speed of advancing your checkers with little or no efforts to hit or barricade your competitor’s pieces. The ideal scenario to employ this plan is when you believe you might be able to move your own pieces quicker than the opposition does: when 1) you have less chips on the game board; 2) all your pieces have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) your opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Technique

The primary aim of the blocking plan, by its name, is to stop your competitor’s pieces, temporarily, while not worrying about moving your checkers rapidly. After you’ve created the blockade for your opponent’s movement with a few checkers, you can move your other chips rapidly from the board. The player will need to also have an apparent strategy when to back off and shift the chips that you utilized for the blockade. The game becomes interesting when your opposition uses the same blocking strategy.
