As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of skill and good luck. The goal is to shift your pieces safely around the board to your inner board while at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player chips shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Tactic
If the aim of the blocking plan is to slow down the opponent to move his checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s checkers will either get bumped, or result a damaged position if she at all tries to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to prevent the movement of your opponent, your opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, and you move your chips and roll the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.
The Back Game Plan
The goals of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions with hope to improve your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy relies on alternate tactics to do that. The Back Game technique is generally used when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this strategy, you have to control two or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the pieces are relocated is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
