In extraordinarily general terms, there are 3 chief game plans used. You need to be able to switch game plans instantly as the action of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This comprises of creating a 6-thick wall of pieces, or at a minimum as deep as you can achieve, to lock in the competitor’s pieces that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate procedure at the begining of the match. You can build the wall anywhere within your eleven-point and your 2-point and then shift it into your home board as the game continues.

The Blitz

This involves locking your home board as quick as as you can while keeping your opposer on the bar. e.g., if your opposer tosses an early 2 and shifts one checker from your one-point to your 3-point and you then toss a 5-5, you will be able to play 6/1 6/1 8/3 eight/three. Your opposer is then in serious difficulty because they have two pieces on the bar and you have closed half your home board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have 2 or higher anchors in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor spot is a position occupied by at least two of your checkers.) It must be played when you are extremely behind as it much improves your opportunities. The better locations for anchors are towards your opponent’s lower points and also on adjoining points or with a single point in between. Timing is important for an effective backgame: besides, there is no reason having two nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then forced to break up this straight away, while your challenger is moving their checkers home, considering that you do not have any other additional checkers to shift! In this case, it’s more tolerable to have pieces on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up until your competitor gives you a chance to hit, so it can be an excellent idea to attempt and get your opposer to get them in this situation!
