As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The goal is to move your checkers carefully around the board to your inner board and at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their home board in the opposite direction. With opposing player pieces shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at particular times. Here are the two final Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the goal of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move her pieces, the Priming Game strategy is to completely block any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a battered position if he/she at all tries to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your game board. After you’ve successfully built the prime to stop the activity of the competitor, your opponent does not even get to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice again. You will be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The objectives of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game technique are very similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions with hope to better your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy relies on alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game strategy is generally used when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this plan, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more challenging than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are moved is partially the result of the dice roll.
