In exceptionally simple terms, there are three general techniques employed. You must be able to switch techniques instantly as the course of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This comprises of creating a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at a minimum as thick as you are able to manage, to lock in the competitor’s pieces that are located on your 1-point. This is considered to be the most suitable strategy at the begining of the game. You can create the wall anyplace inbetween your eleven-point and your 2-point and then shift it into your home board as the game continues.

The Blitz

This is composed of locking your home board as quick as possible while keeping your opponent on the bar. i.e., if your competitor rolls an early 2 and shifts one checker from your 1-point to your three-point and you then toss a five-five, you will be able to play 6/1 6/1 eight/three eight/three. Your opponent is now in serious calamity since they have 2 pieces on the bar and you have locked half your inner board!

The Backgame

This strategy is where you have 2 or more pieces in your competitor’s inner board. (An anchor is a point consisting of at a minimum 2 of your pieces.) It should be played when you are decidedly behind as it greatly improves your circumstances. The better places for anchors are close to your opponent’s smaller points and also on adjoining points or with a single point in between. Timing is essential for an effectual backgame: besides, there’s no point having two nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then required to break up this right away, while your challenger is getting their checkers home, owing to the fact that you do not have other additional checkers to move! In this situation, it is more favorable to have checkers on the bar so that you can maintain your position up until your challenger gives you an opportunity to hit, so it will be a good idea to attempt and get your challenger to get them in this situation!
