The objective of a Backgammon match is to move your checkers around the Backgammon board and bear them off the board quicker than your competitor who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Succeeding in a match of Backgammon requires both tactics and fortune. Just how far you will be able to move your checkers is left to the numbers from rolling a pair of dice, and the way you move your checkers are determined by your overall playing strategies. Enthusiasts use differing techniques in the different stages of a game dependent on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Tactic

The goal of the Running Game technique is to entice all your pieces into your inside board and pull them off as fast as you can. This strategy focuses on the pace of advancing your pieces with little or no efforts to hit or block your opponent’s pieces. The ideal scenario to use this plan is when you think you can shift your own pieces a lot faster than the opponent does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the board; 2) all your chips have moved beyond your competitor’s chips; or 3) the opponent doesn’t use the hitting or blocking tactic.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The main goal of the blocking strategy, by its title, is to stop your opponent’s pieces, temporarily, while not fretting about shifting your pieces quickly. After you’ve created the blockage for the competitor’s movement with a few pieces, you can shift your other chips quickly from the board. The player will need to also have a clear strategy when to withdraw and move the chips that you utilized for blocking. The game gets interesting when your opponent uses the same blocking tactic.
